Residents of the municipality of Medgidia will experience a planned interruption to the drinking-water supply on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.. According to RAJA S.A., the measure is necessary to carry out essential water-supply network modernisation works.
What is the reason for the interruption?
The water shutdown is caused by work on the DN 630 mm supply pipeline, in order to connect it to the Hidrofor reservoir. The work is part of Contract CL23, a project implemented through the Major Infrastructure Operational Programme (POIM), and is intended to improve water infrastructure in the municipality of Medgidia and the locality of Remus Opreanu.
Areas affected by the water shutdown
- Hidrofor Reservoir
- Hidrofor area (Poligonul Viilor and Văii streets)
- Catanga neighbourhood
- Hospital area
- Post Office area
- Berărie neighbourhood
- Ostrov neighbourhood (including Mărgăritarului Street as far as Siretului Street)
- VS neighbourhood
Depending on the progress of the works, the affected areas may be temporarily extended.
How long will the water shutdown last?
RAJA estimates that the work will last from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. However, depending on on-site conditions, the works may be extended. In a similar situation on May 28, 2025, supply was only restored at 9:00 p.m..
What should affected residents do?
- Store water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene before 7:00 a.m.
- Avoid using water-consuming appliances, such as washing machines and boilers.
- Once supply is restored, let the water run for a few minutes until it clears.
- Do not consume cloudy or discoloured water.
Benefits of the works
Connecting the DN 630 mm pipeline to the Hidrofor reservoir is part of a modernisation plan aimed at reducing water losses, increasing pressure and improving service quality. These investments will provide a safer and more consistent supply for residents of the municipality.
Similar work in the past
RAJA has carried out similar works in previous months:
- May 28, 2025: shutdown from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., affecting the same areas.
- February 27, 2025: interruption from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., for connection to modernised networks.
The water shutdown on July 30, 2025, is a temporary but necessary measure to improve Medgidia’s water-supply network. Although it will cause short-term inconvenience, the works will help ensure a more efficient, safer and more sustainable service. RAJA apologises for the inconvenience and thanks everyone for their understanding.
