Meta unveiled Muse Charm at Connect 2026 as the most direct way to speak to its Muse AI agent without taking your phone out of your pocket. The device is small enough to be carried on a keyring or in a pocket, displays the Muse avatar, and is built around real-time voice conversations. But as of 1 October 2026, there is an important distinction between what Meta has officially confirmed and the specifications reported by the press.
In short: Muse Charm is real, has been publicly shown, and Meta says it will share more details later this year. Its price, battery life, final component list and country availability have not yet been published in an official specification sheet. Bloomberg and The Verge have, however, reported details about current prototypes, including an approximately 2-inch OLED display, a 5G modem, fingerprint sensor, cameras, microphones and USB-C.

What Muse Charm actually is
Muse Charm is not a separate new AI model. It is the hardware through which users can quickly reach Muse, Meta’s personal agent launched in September 2026. Meta describes Muse as an agent that goes beyond answering in chat: it can browse the web, work with connected services, complete forms, make bookings, create documents, set reminders and continue tasks in the background.
For more information, see OpenAI Dots, the AI agent that works 24/7: what it can do and why Romania has limited access at launch, which explores an aspect directly related to this topic.

This is also the key difference from a Tamagotchi, a comparison frequently made after the presentation. Its appearance may recall a digital toy with an animated character, but Meta’s intended function is much closer to a portable terminal for an AI agent. The screen gives Muse a visual presence, while the primary interaction is designed around voice.

How you use it: fingerprint, voice and an agent that continues working in the cloud
In the Connect demonstration, Mark Zuckerberg showed that a user can touch the fingerprint sensor in the corner and begin a conversation with Muse without unlocking their phone or opening an app. The idea is simple: rather than taking out a smartphone, finding the app and starting a session, Charm becomes direct access to the agent.
Meta says Muse runs on its secure infrastructure, in an environment called Muse Secure VM, with its own virtual browser. This means the most demanding processing and task execution do not have to take place on the gadget in your pocket. Charm is essentially the physical interface; the agent and its tools work in the cloud.
According to Bloomberg, the integrated 5G modem would allow the device to use Muse without a Wi-Fi network. Bloomberg also notes that Meta had not yet finalised details concerning carrier charges for the mobile connection. So, while the existence of 5G is well supported by the publication’s reporting, the cost of connectivity remains unknown.
What Muse can do through Charm
Meta has not yet listed the device’s final capabilities separately, but Muse already has a broad range of functions. On the agent’s official page, Meta says Muse can answer questions, browse the web, shop, generate images, create documents, set reminders, track goals, and work with apps and services through connectors.
- Real-time voice conversation: speak to the agent without opening your phone.
- Questions about what is in front of you: the cameras reported for Charm could allow visual context to be sent to Muse, similar to the direction Meta is pursuing for its AI glasses.
- Web tasks: bookings, forms, searches, shopping or other actions Muse can carry out through its secure browser.
- Connected services: Meta has announced integrations for shopping, payments, travel and productivity, including Walmart, Best Buy, PayPal, Shop Pay, Expedia, Notion, GitHub and Box.
- Continuity: the idea is that a task can continue in the background after the initial conversation, rather than simply returning an answer on screen.
It is important, however, to distinguish between what Muse can do as a service and what exactly Charm will enable at launch. Meta has not yet published a definitive list of functions available on the device.
Can Muse Charm replace a phone?
No, at least not in the form presented so far. Bloomberg reports that Muse Charm is not designed for phone calls or video calls. Even if it has 5G connectivity, a display, cameras and speakers, its purpose is quick access to the AI agent, not a full smartphone replacement.
It is more accurately viewed as a combination of an AI companion, a remote control for digital tasks and a small screen for the Muse avatar. Whether this category becomes genuinely useful depends on two things Meta still needs to demonstrate: how quickly and reliably the agent executes commands, and how often users will choose Charm over their phone or AI glasses.
Why would Meta want a separate gadget when we already have phones?
The answer is the time between intention and action. A personal agent becomes more useful if it can be accessed instantly. Meta is already building the same idea in several forms: the Muse app, WhatsApp, the web, Mac and AI glasses. Charm seeks to occupy the space between phone and glasses: a small device that is always within reach and intended primarily for conversations with the agent.
This strategy follows a difficult period for dedicated AI gadgets. The Humane AI Pin was discontinued after a troubled launch, while the Rabbit R1 drew criticism over the gap between its original promise and practical usefulness. Meta’s advantage is that Muse already exists as a service and can be used without Charm; the device does not have to build the entire ecosystem from scratch.
Privacy: the most important question is not “does it have a camera?”, but “when does it send data, and what?”
A pocket device with microphones, cameras and access to an agent that can work with email, calendars, shopping and other services inevitably raises privacy questions. It is important not to draw conclusions before final documentation is published.
Meta says Muse was built with access controls and runs in a secure virtual machine. The user decides which services to connect and what access to give the agent. At the same time, Meta has not yet published a detailed technical policy specific to Muse Charm explaining, for example, how camera activation works, what visible indicators appear when sensors are in use, which data are stored locally and what information is sent to the cloud.
There is currently no solid basis for saying that Muse Charm “is always listening”. The demonstration shows an interaction started through the fingerprint sensor, but complete documentation on microphone and camera states still needs to be published. For a product of this kind, those details will matter as much as battery life or price.
For context on the risks specific to agents that can act on a user’s behalf, InfoBuz has separately examined how AI agents can compress the time between a breach and effective action.
When will Muse Charm launch, and how much will it cost?
The target announced on stage is December 2026, in time for the holiday season. However, Meta’s official Connect page does not yet provide a sales date and says only that more details will be announced later this year.
The price has not been announced. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the plans, writes that Meta is considering a price in the smartwatch range. Without an official figure, any more specific amount would be speculation. Mobile connectivity costs could also be added to the hardware cost if the final model uses 5G independently of a phone.
Will Muse Charm be available in Romania?
There is no confirmation for Romania yet. Meta has expanded Muse in some North American markets, but has not published an official list of countries, carriers or retailers for Charm. Hardware availability may initially be more limited, especially if the device depends on carrier agreements for 5G, but this remains a possibility rather than confirmed information.

Frequently asked questions about Muse Charm
Is Muse Charm already on sale?
No. As of 1 October 2026, the device has been shown, but there is no order page yet with a price and final configurations. The publicly mentioned target is December 2026.
Does Muse Charm have 5G?
Bloomberg and The Verge report an integrated 5G modem. Meta has not yet published a complete official specification sheet, so this should be treated as credible reporting about a prototype, rather than a guaranteed final specification.
Does it have a camera?
Reports by Bloomberg and The Verge mention cameras that allow the device to capture images and give the agent visual context. The resolution and exact activation method have not been officially published.
Does it work without a phone?
That is one of the product’s main aims: direct access to Muse without opening an app on a phone. The reported 5G connectivity would also allow access away from Wi-Fi. Initial setup and account management may, however, involve the Muse app.
How much does it cost?
Meta has not announced a price. Bloomberg indicates only that it could be positioned in the smartwatch range. Any exact amount appearing before the official announcement should be treated as unconfirmed.
Conclusion: the interesting part is not the Tamagotchi form, but always-on access to an agent that can act
Muse Charm is one of the first clear signs that major technology companies want to move AI agents from apps into dedicated physical objects. The small screen and avatar are the visible part, but the real proposition is different: being able to state an intention in a sentence and have the agent continue with the necessary steps in the background.
Before it is possible to say whether Muse Charm is a useful gadget or merely an interesting experiment, Meta needs to answer the remaining questions: price, battery life, availability, 5G cost, sensor controls and the exact day-one functions. Until then, the most accurate picture is this: a real device, publicly presented, with a clear direction, but still without a final specification sheet.
